The randomised crossover study compared two blends with different proportions of grape marc and grape-seed extract. Blood pressure, lipids and postprandial response were measured to distinguish formulation effects.
The extract-rich blend was associated with lower systolic blood pressure but also lower HDL, while the marc-rich blend reduced postprandial triglycerides. The response therefore does not support one simple interpretation.
For formulation teams, matrix specificity is the useful result: component ratio, dose and composition must accompany any conclusion. Multiple endpoints also call for replication and a clearly defined primary outcome.
Raw material, component ratio and phenolic profile are part of the intervention and cannot be compressed into the generic label “grape polyphenols”.
A short trial with multiple endpoints; effects are not uniform and do not establish an overall cardiometabolic benefit for the category.
