HOPE is a randomised controlled study in adults with central obesity. For eight weeks it compares an olive oil containing more than 1,000 mg/kg total polyphenols with a low-phenolic oil containing no more than 100 mg/kg.
The protocol combines metabolic and anthropometric measures with dietary and quality-of-life assessments. Its development value lies in comparing similar matrices with markedly different phenolic profiles.
The registry contains no results. Until completion and publication, the study cannot show that high-phenolic olive oil improves metabolism in central obesity or attribute an outcome to one molecule.
For olive-derived ingredients, it is a useful development model: a real food matrix, characterised phenolic content and a defined metabolic population.
A recruiting trial with no results. Registration describes the design but demonstrates neither efficacy nor transferability to different extracts or doses.
